Overview

Hepatitis NSW is an independent, charitable, community-based membership organisation offering assistance to people affected by the hepatitis C virus. We are overseen by a Board of Governance elected annually by our membership. Our primary funder is the NSW Health Department. The range of people we deal with is wide. It includes people with hepatitis C and their partners, family and friends; healthcare and welfare workers; peer organisations and individuals; government departments; private sector employers and members of the NSW public.

Board membership (Nov 2009)

Tim Abrams  /  Robert Barco  /  Ron Beckett  /  Sallie Cairnduff (Treasurer)  /  Panos Couros (on leave of absence)  /  Jenny Douglas  /  Stuart Loveday  /  Peter Middleton (Secretary)  /  Liz Milne  /  Grenville Rose (President)  /  Lorraine Smith  /  Christina Thomas (Vice President)  /  Juliana Triml

Primary funder

Hepatitis NSW acknowledges and is appreciative of our primary funding by NSW Health, through the AIDS and Infectious Diseases Branch.

Quality accreditation

In July 2003 Hepatitis NSW met the accreditation requirements of the Australian Health and Community Service Standards of the Quality Improvement Council of Australia. This significant achievement acknowledges that we meet the relevant organisational national standards that define us as a quality organisation which is committed to continuous improvement. We maintain our accreditation status on an ongoing three year quality improvement review cycle. While this status may eventually be a requirement of all NSW Health-funded non-government organisations we elected to go through the process voluntarily. Hepatitis NSW was one of the first NSW Health funded organisations to achieve this standing, and one of the first organisations to be reviewed against the Community Service Organisations Standards including the Telephone Helpline standards.

We have detailed policies and procedures that guide the development and review of our services and structures. These have been endorsed within our Quality Improvment Council of Australia accreditation. Key aspects in the development of our resources include the collaboration and involvement of respected hepatitis C expert clinicians and researchers, as well as the involvement of people with hepatitis C (see resources development guidelines).

Deductible gift recipient status

Private funding is essential for Hepatitis NSW as it enables us to carry out activities for which we are not able to use our statutory funding from government sources.

We achieved Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status from the Australian Tax Department in 2003. Because we are an income tax exempt health promotion charity with DGR status, your donations of $2 and over are tax deductible and provide you with a tax benefit.

We welcome your donation as it will contribute directly to reducing the impact of the hepatitis C epidemic on those people in NSW and elsewhere who are affected by it. To make a donation or bequest, please click here DONATE NOW >>
