Whether you are a university medical student or doing your HSC, hep C can be a very interesting assignment topic.
Aside from chlamydia, hep C is Australia's most common notifiable communicable disease. Not only is the hep C virus very clever in a virological sense, and only fully identified by genetic mapping, the condition is invariably accompanied with issues of morality and judgement, often leading to secrecy and sometimes leading to social isolation for those affected. Indeed, the people at most risk of contracting hep C are those belonging to some of Australia's most disadvantaged communities.
For an overview of hep C, see our factsheets - specifically, Australian snapshot.
Should you choose to take on hep C as an assignment topic, we have a wide range of detailed information sources - downloadable or viewable online. These include strategic plans, other policy documents, inquiry reports, key research reports and annual notification data. See info resources.
Additionally, Hepatitis NSW is happy to welcome students for site visits. Please contact us for further information.
