The power of a personal story is universally inspiring, and our Speaker Service enables you to greatly enhance your upcoming educational events/workshops by changing community attitudes and challenging stigma experienced by people living with viral hepatitis.

“The speaker was absolutely fabulous! She is such an inspiration and was so confident and frank talking about her experiences. The participants were all so appreciative and gave her a huge applause at the end!”
Speaker: Grace W. from Sonja Hill (ASHM)

The Speaker Service gives people who are affected by viral hepatitis the opportunity to talk about the psychosocial or medical related aspects of their experience of living with hep C or hep B.

Witnessing personal accounts of people’s lived experience of hep B or hep C develops an understanding of how issues such as stigma and discrimination impact on access to healthcare and support services. This has been shown to be an extremely effective strategy in improving attitudes, values and behaviours of the broader community and healthcare workforce.

Inviting a Hepatitis NSW Speaker to present a 15 minute account of their story, with an opportunity for audiences and organisers to ask questions at the end, provides a unique opportunity to:

  • hear first-hand personal experiences of people living with hep B or C
  • enhance existing training & education initiatives with personal perspectives
  • challenge the myths and stereotypes surrounding hep B or C
  • address discriminatory attitudes in the workplace and elsewhere
  • provide a holistic view of health (medical, social, personal)
  • gain insight into the psychosocial issues associated with living with hep B or C

Our speakers are trained in public speaking and share their stories with participants as part of our broader hep B and hep C education sessions, and at community workshops and events. Our Speakers with lived experience of hep B can deliver their personal stories in English, Chinese (Mandarin) and Korean. A suite of video presentations will be available soon.
