Terms and conditions – Hepatitis B Writing Competition 2.0

1. Competition Organiser

1.1 These terms and conditions (“Terms”) govern participation in the Hepatitis B Writing Competition 2.0 (the “Competition”) organised by Hepatitis NSW (the “Organiser”), located at Level 4, 414 Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills, NSW 2010.

1.2 By entering the Competition, participants (“Entrants”) acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms.

2. Eligibility

2.1 To be eligible for the Competition, an Entrant must:

2.1.1 Be 18 years or older as of 31st May 2025.

2.1.2 Be living or have lived experiences with hepatitis B.

2.1.4 Be currently residing in New South Wales, Australia as of 31st of May 2025

2.2 The following individuals are ineligible to enter the Competition:

2.2.1 Any individual who has been employed by, or has received financial compensation from, Hepatitis NSW in any capacity.

3. Competition Theme

3.1 The Competition requires Entrants to submit an original written piece on the topic of hepatitis B and their personal experiences. Entries may include, but are not limited to:

3.1.1 The Entrant’s diagnosis story;

3.1.2 The clinical advice received, including treatment and monitoring experiences;

3.1.3 Experiences with stigma and discrimination; and

3.1.4 The impact of hepatitis B on the Entrant’s life and career.

3.2 Entries must be:

3.2.1 Written in English;

3.2.2 A minimum of 600 words in length;

3.2.3 Submitted as a Word (.doc/.docx) or PDF (.pdf) file; and

3.2.4 Accompanied by the Entrant’s full name (or any other name chosen), postal address, email address, and contact number.

3.3 Each Entrant may submit only one (1) entry.

4. Competition period

4.1 The Competition opens at 9:00 AM AEST on Monday, 15th April 2025, and closes at 5:00 PM AEST on Saturday, 31st May 2025.

4.2 Incomplete, or non-compliant entries will not be considered.

5. Prize details

5.1 The Organiser will award prizes to the top six (6) winners as follows:
5.1.1 First Place: AUD $250;
5.1.2 Two (2) Second-Place Winners: AUD $200 each;
5.1.3 Three (3) Third-Place Winners: AUD $150 each.

5.2 The first twenty (20) eligible entries received will each receive a $40 participation reward.

5.3 Hepatitis NSW reserves the right to arrange publication of the winning entry in alternative publications and websites, as necessary.

6. The Judges and judging criteria

6.1 The entries will be evaluated through a judging process by Judging Panel, Hepatitis NSW Health Promotion & Community Support team.

6.2 Winners will be announced in June 2025 on the Hepatitis NSW website (www.hep.org.au) and notified by post, email, and/or telephone.

6.3 If a winner fails to claim their prize within twenty-one (21) days of notification, the Organiser reserves the right to award the prize to an alternate Entrant.

7. Intellectual Property

7.1 By submitting an entry, the Entrant grants Hepatitis NSW a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to use, reproduce, edit, publish, and distribute their entry for promotional and educational purposes.

7.2 The Entrant retains copyright ownership of their submission and may publish it elsewhere after the Competition.

7.3 The Organiser will provide notice to Entrants prior to publication of any winning entries and may accommodate minor redactions for privacy reasons.

8. Privacy and Data Collection

8.1 The Organiser collects personal information solely for the purpose of administering the Competition and awarding prizes.

8.2 Entrant’s details will not be disclosed to third parties without consent.
