1 December 2024

World AIDS Day is held on 1 December each year. It raises awareness across the world and in the community about the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS. It is a day for people to show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died.

World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day and the first one was held in 1988. World AIDS Day is recognised and observed by millions of people in more than 190 countries around the world. In Australia, an estimated 26 800 people were living with diagnosed HIV infection in Australia at the end of 2013.
